Choreographer, video and installation artist, co-director of Argentine contemporary dance company NUCLEODANZA. Born in Buenos Aires, has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biological Sciences from the University of California at Berkeley, U.S.A. Was awarded the GUGGENHEIM FELLOWSHIP IN DANCE 1998, the ONASSIS CHOREOGRAPHY AWARD 2001, the BECA FUNDACION ANTORCHAS 2000 and more recently several contests that specifically called for the development of technological artistic work from institutions such as the PREMIO LIMBO-FUNDACION TELEFONICA-MUSEUM OF MODERN ART, the FUNDACION TEATRO DEL SUR-ARTS INTERNATIONAL and the PROYECTO CRUCE for interdisciplinary performance at the Festival Internacional de Teatro de Buenos Aires
Since 1972 she has choreographed 37 works, most of them for the independent contemporary dance company NUCLEODANZA and her works have toured extensively in Europe (Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Austria, Checoeslovaquia, Hungary, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Ireland), USA, Asia (India, Indonesia, South Korea), Australia, and Latin America. The group has performed in over thirty International Dance Festivals. The latest stage works AVE DE CIUDAD, NAUFRAGIO IN VITRO as well as the outdoor multimedia performance PIZZURNO PIXELADO have incorporated video projections in ever increasing complexity while ZOOM IN LOOK OUT, funded with the BECA ANTORCHAS in co-production with the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point, also developed several interactive scenes on stage. She has collaborated with Argentine composers that have created original musical compositions for her work such Marcelo Moguilevsky, Alejandro Gonzalez Novoa and on a continuous basis is developing interactive work with composers Francisco Collasanto and Jorge Sad
Bali has directed seven dance video works, which have been awarded ten prizes. Among these 1994 ICI Video Competition, 1997 INCAA (Argentine National Film Institute) and the Coreografo Elettronico Competition in Napoli, Italy. She has created video installation sculptural works that have been shown in Argentine museums such as the yearly national competition the SALON NACIONAL DE ARTES VISUALES in 2001 and 2004 and the Premio Banco Ciudad at the MUSEO NACIONAL DE BELLAS ARTES.
Bali studied contemporary dance, ballet, composition and sculpture at the University of California, University of Washington in Seattle, Dance Theatre Seattle and The Factory of Visual Arts School. She continued her education in dance, art and video in Buenos Aires and participated in numerous international workshops related to Technology in the Arts (IDAT-SWIPT-ISEA-Monaco-Fabian Wagmaister-Palindrome-Studio Azzuro). She has danced professionally with the following companies: Dance Theater Seattle, Oscar Araiz Ballet, Ballet Contemporaneo del Teatro San Martin and NUCLEODANZA.
Bali directs a contemporary dance school, was head of several special teaching projects such as Antorchas Foundation-NUCLEODANZA two-year program of touring seminars in Argentine provinces, and was Coordinator of the first AMERICAN DANCE FESTIVAL-FUNDACIÓN ANTORCHAS Contemporary Dance Workshop in Patagonia. She was one of the founders of the first Argentine Contemporary Dance Association COCOA, and was actively involved for several years in the writing and lobbying for a Dance Subsidies Law (PRODANZA) that was passed in the Buenos Aires City Government.
